EASY WALK FROM ASHRIDGE TEA ROOMS FOLLOWING ASHRIDGE ESTATE BOUNDARY TRAIL, HERTFORDHSIRE WAY AND CHILTERN WAY FOOTPATHS

Start: Ashridge EstateTeam Rooms (Bridgewater Monument) 
Distance:  Approx  6 miles  
Difficulty:  Easy. (15% downhill, 15% uphill, 70% on flat)
Dog Friendly: Distance maybe to far but you can turn back at any time. There are long stretches which are muddy especially when walking through wood. 

Check the weather

 1010 - Leave Ashridge Tea Rooms turning left out of gate passed disabled carriers

1012 - Follow path for short distance until you come to a fork junction. 

1018 - Take left fork following the 'No horses' sign. You will be going downhill. Can be very muddy.

1025 - You will meet a path running parrallel with this one. Turn left onto this track

1028 - Follow blue sign keeping to left of track

1030 - Come across cottage on left. Turn right at cottage entrance following for a short way along hardened track.

Turn left following the Public bridleway blue arrow sign.

1030 - Meet road (Aldbury road). Follow the sign to 'Ashridge Estate Boundary Trail' green arrow. Cross road into wood again. Keeping right of the car park. Follow the 'Norcott Hall' sign. This path can be very muddy and not so easy to navigate. 

1038 - Keeping following the blue arrow on the same path. on reaching the field keep to left of fence.

1045 - Very muddy path and not easily to navigate. Just keep the fenced field to the right of you

1050 - Reach sign post. and turn right  following  the ';Hertfordshire way' path  The blue arrow points you in the right direction,

 

1055 - Exit wood onto large open field. On far side you should see vehicles on the 'Ringshall road' ( Berkhamstead to Dagnall). Turn right onto wide footpath and walk over to corner where  large tree overhangs onto the field. 

You will also see a post directly opposite the tree.

 

1058 -  At signpost turn right and follow the tree line for a short distance.Then turn left still on same track towards the main road. Still follow the blue sign

 

 

1120 - You will meet the main road. Opposite is 'Hill farm'. Turn right walking over the road . Afther the last black and white hazard ssign you will meet path. Follow the red arrow into the woods. Keep to right of fence.

1128 - On reaching 'Northchurch; farm immediatly turn left following yellow arrow.

 

 

Go through gate passing 'Leawood' house.

 

1135 - Follow peach arrow footpath through metal gate then through a second metal gate.

 

Follow green arrow 'Ashridge Estate boundary trail' over the field keeping to the path. There maybe horses in the field

 

 1142 - leaving field, turn left and follow the fence keeping to the left of it. Go through gate walking downhill steeply. You then walk uphill

1150 - Reach the brow of the hill having kept to the farm track. Gently walking downhill to the stile following the 'Ashridge Estate boundary trail'. Walk towards 'Coldharbour' farm passed the pond.

1205 - Go through gate and in a short distance you will come to cross roads. Keep going straight acroos following blue arrow.

1215 - Pass field with horses on right. Go pass white gate of 'Wood Yard' cottage. In a very short distance climb over stile and walk uphill(steep climb over a short distance) following the large yellow arrow. There maybe cows in field.

1220 - On other side of field climb over stile and turn left following the path adjacent to the barbed wire fence. You may see deer in the field and in the wood.

1245 - Reaching the second sign post, turn right following the 'Chiltern Way' bridleway. This part of the path can be muddy.

1301 - Reaching the 'Ringshall road' again, cross over following the blue arrow 'Chiltern Way; public bridleway.   The open field is to right of track.

 1310 - Reach two sign posts, turn right following the 'No horses' signpost.

This track is very muddy. Walk along this track going passed open field to right. You may see deer in the field.   

1315 - You will come to cross roads of 4 tracks. Take the 2nd track from the left.

1312 - Come across open field. Climb over fence and walks to the Ashridge monument or turn left and follow track which takes you to the monument.

1320 - Arrive back at the tea rooms.
