Grand Junction to Wendover round Trip

0930hrs Park car at 'Grand Junction' pub. Walk down to towpath turning

left following the canal to the bridge.

0935hrs On reaching the bridge(Bulbourne Dry Dock) take path under the

bridge and follow the towpath'Grand Union Canal walk Wendover'.

0950hrs On reaching the 'Tring Bridge', climb over the stile and turn

right over the bridge to other side of the road. Continue along the

towpath passed 'Heygates Flour Mill'.

Note: A good place to see kingfishers is were a tribuatary connects to

this canal about quater mile from this bridge.

1003hrs On reaching 'Little Tring Bridge, don't go under the bridge

but walk upto road climbing over the stile. Turn left to other side of

the road, climbing over the stile following the sign 'Public Footpath

Wilstone Reservoir half mile' sign.

1010hrs Within a short distance follow the path to the left which show

s the yellow public footpath sign pointing away from the canal.

Note: to right of path a rabbit and badger warrens can be seen.

1012hrs Go through metal gate, turn right following 'Tring Reservoir

Trails' arrow. Go through the second gate climbing to the top of hill.

Walk down to metal gate.

Note: You will see a good view of 'Tring Reservoir'.

1015hrs Go through gate, climb over the wooden bridge the turn left

walking along the dried out bed of the canal.

1030hrs On reaching 'Drayton Bridge', keeping following the towpath to

Wendover.

1045hrs On reaching 'Homesitters' cross over the road to the 'Towpath

to Wendover'.

1120hrs On reaching 'Raf Halton' bridge keep following the grand union

canal to Wendover.

1155hrs You reach end of canal, turn right onto road, joining main

road turning left to centre of Wendover.

Note: A good time to have lunch.


1300hrs From centre of Wendover follow the A4011 to Tring.

1310hrs Opposite the Tesco store walk down Woodclrton cresent then

left into Barlow road. At end of this road you follow the footpath up

the hill.

1320hrs on Reaching footpath crossroads continue upwards.

Note: This path is steep to climb.

1330hrs On reaching another crossroads of footpaths turn left going

passed Asymetric wooden bars. Walk passed these going passed another

two wooden structures which look like tow dogs.

1335hrs After a short distance you will reach a wide path which has a

wooden gate. Walk passed wooden post showing horseshoe symbol. Walk to

left of this sign.

1340hrs Take right fork uphill following the horseshoe symbol public

footpath.

1345hrs Arrive at viewpoint.

Note: Excellent view of Wendover and the Aylesbury plain. Good place

to have a picnic.

1350hrs Come to crooss roads but keep following the main path in front

of you.

1355hrs you will reach a number of signs, one of which displays a

cycle sign. Turn left walking downhill. Within a short distance you

will see the horseshoe sign and yellow footpath sign pointing right.

Take this footpath uphill keeping left of brick wall.

1403hrs On reaching road, walk across going uphill. Keep on following

yellow sign. On reaching crossroad footpaths, go straight across over

the stile towards the grid point in middle of the field.

1415hrs Walk over the stile follow the yellow footpath sign, Cross the

road onto the track. stay on this track going passed the 'Aston court'

sign on gate.

1420hrs On reaching 'Long Meadow Farm', go through wooden structure

keeping to right of barbwire. This path takes you downhill to road.

1430hrs Turn right at road and within a short distance turn left onto

footpath.

1445hrs You will reach 'Foy lane' - large trunk laying next to lane -

Turn left keeping to left of A41Trunk road. On reaching bridge,walk

over this.

1450hrs Reaching road, walk across keeping to footpath which skirts

around the farmers field.

1455hrs You reach the B488 road, turn right, cross over to otherside

keeping to the verge.

1505hrs You will see footpath 'Wendover Arm Canal half mile' at

Miswell house. Take this footpath

1515hrs Reach stile which is just passed Miswell farm on right. Climb

over walking across the field. Continue climbing a number of stiles

until you reach the canal. Retrace your steps back to the 'Grand

Junction' pub.

1600hrs Reach 'Grand Junction' pub. end of walk.
